The exciting young dancers of the Goh Ballet perform a rich selection of classical and original ballets for the April edition of The Dance Centre’s popular Discover Dance! noon hour series. The performance will feature the Goh Ballet Youth Company along with other students from Vancouver’s internationally-renowned Goh Ballet Academy, which has produced five generations of notable dancers and international prize winners since its inception in 1978: its graduates dance with leading companies across North America, Europe and Asia. The program will include ballet from classical repertoire and original works by the choreographers of today.
Established in 1978, the Goh Ballet Academy is an internationally renowned institute, recognized for its high calibre ballet training and performances, providing young dancers with advanced knowledge to prepare them for a flourishing career in the field of dance. The Goh Ballet was founded by Choo Chiat Goh and Lin Yee Goh and is now under the direction of Chan Hon Goh, former Prima Ballerina of the National Ballet of Canada. The academy introduces new interpretations of classic full–length productions, nurtures and cultivates award–winning aspiring dancers and commissions new works by some of the world’s most renowned and sought–after choreographers. The Academy has received international acclaim as one of Canada’s preeminent ballet schools, giving rise to young talent, with its graduates filling the ranks of world–renowned ballet companies. This recognition has enabled the Goh Ballet to offer invaluable opportunities for students to perform internationally, work with professional dancers, and represent Canada around the globe as an ambassador for Canadian dance and arts culture.
The Goh Ballet Youth Company (GBYC) was formed in 1979 to further advance a student’s professional training and performance experience. The GBYC offers dancers the opportunity to refine their technical and artistic training while providing the necessary support and guidance to pursue a rewarding career in dance anywhere in the world. The GBYC has attracted dancers from countries such as England, Germany, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Yugoslavia, Brazil, Peru, Mexico, the United States, Japan, Taiwan, and China. It has toured the People’s Republic of China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan and the United States. www.gohballet.com
