A world premiere from the unique and captivating Vancouver’s Tara Cheyenne Friedenberg and Italy’s award-winning Silvia Gribaudi. In their collaborative new work empty.swimming.pool they collide and embrace while navigating the role of comedy as a catalyst to questions of gender, culture and language and understanding. Both these seriously funny women have crafted their own expert blends of physicality and characterization to create hilarious but poignant work, so when they join forces we are in for a treat!

Vancouver favourite, Shay Kuebler /Radical System Art brings us the world premiere of their completed and full-length version of TELEMETRY that also showcases Canadian tap virtuoso Danny Nielsen. Last year Chutzpah! audiences had a sneak preview of this work with Volume 1and left everyone wanting more! Now with this final full-length premiere of TELEMETRY we will share in a unique dance experience that mixes interactive sound and lighting with a physical language of swing, bebop jazz, and contemporary dance. TELEMETRY houses the human body as an antenna and satellite for sound, energy, and memory. Join these amazing Vancouver-based dancers – Shay Kuebler, Danny Nielsen, Lexi Vajda, Tyler Layton- Olson, Nicholas Lydiate, Maxine Chadburn and Alex Tam – in a powerful, fun and multi-faceted dance experience!

Hailing from TeI Aviv, choreographers Yossi Berg and Oded Graf have a well-deserved reputation for dance work that ranges from provocative to poignant. Their intensely physical and enticing approach excites audiences and critics alike. Since its premiere in Germany, their recent production of 4Men, Alice, Bach and the Deer has taken the world by storm. A humorous dark fantasy tells the tale of four men trying to find the ultimate “man” and daring to doubt his existence. It’s a delightful and original work that has been acclaimed by critics worldwide as “striking, unforgettable, poetic and surprising”.

Spellbound Contemporary Ballet returns to Chutzpah! with their full-length production of Carmina Burana, choreographed by company Artistic Director Mauro Astolfi. The combination of Astolfi’s skillful choreography and Spellbound’s exquisite dancers accompanied by the powerful music of Carl Orff, Antonio Vivaldi and V. Caracciolo, makes for a memorable audience experience.
