November 19, 2013 - We extend our congratulations and warm appreciation to Anndraya T. Luui, the 2013 Mayor’s Arts Award recipient for Philanthropy. We would like to thank Anndraya for her tireless efforts, leadership, and philanthropic support in her capacity as a Director of both The Dance Centre and Dance Foundation Boards. She has demonstrated outstanding commitment to The Dance Centre as a supporter of our programming goals and priorities. We are a better and stronger organization because of her support. Scotiabank Supports Annual Open House
August 12, 2013 - Scotiabank has confirmed it will once again support our annual Scotiabank Dance Centre Open House. This year's event takes place on Saturday September 14 and will draw hundreds of dance lovers to Canada's flagship dance facility for a day of classes, workshops, performances and events. July 18, 2013 - The Dance Centre’s 2013-2014 season presents a program of exciting performances and events by artists working across contemporary and cultural genres. The Global Dance Connections contemporary dance series features local choreographers as well as visiting artists from France and Austria, while the popular Discover Dance! noon series presents a varied range of dance from diverse cultural backgrounds. Other highlights include the 9th biennial Dance In Vancouver, a dynamic showcase of BC’s contemporary dance scene, the annual Scotiabank Dance Centre Open House, featuring the premiere of a new work by award-winning tap dancer Danny Nielsen, events celebrating National Dance Week and International Dance Day, and ongoing residencies and research labs throughout the season. Residencies In-Depth: Barbara Bourget's Solo Dance Project
September 11, 2012 - During her Dance Centre residency 2011-12, Barbara Bourget developed a new solo performance for herself with music by her son Joseph Hirabayashi, which premiered in June 2012. She also worked with a group of Vancouver dance artists (Tracy Dietrich, Gail Lotenberg, Josh Martin and Deanna Peters) in her Solo Choreography Workshop, where the participants came together once a month to examine the art of the solo and develop their own new pieces. These new solos were performed as part of the annual Scotiabank Dance Centre Open House on Saturday September 15, 2012. Prior to the September performances, Andreas Kahre interviewed Barbara about her work, the creative process, the project and the presentation, and each of the four participants provided their perspective on their experiences learning about the solo form. DVBIA Appreciation Award
June 14, 2012 - The Dance Centre was awarded the Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association's 2012 Appreciation Award for Outstanding Organization. The Awards 'acknowledge individuals and organizations that make significant contributions to downtown.' Announcing the recipient of the Santa Aloi Award
May 30, 2012 - The Dance Centre has announced virtuoso tap dancer Danny Nielsen as the recipient of the third annual Santa Aloi Award. The Award, valued at $4,500, is designed to assist choreographers to hire dancers to rehearse and perform new work. The Award is made possible through the generosity of Michael Fellman in honour of Santa Aloi, a dancer and choreographer known for her poignant storytelling through tap, music and contemporary dance. Nielsen will use the Award to support the creation of a new full length work with an ensemble cast, scheduled to be performed at Scotiabank Dance Centre in fall 2012 and co-produced with the Vancouver International Tap Festival.

April 24, 2012: Alana Gerecke documented the Vancouver section of the Triptych research project in fall 2011 through writing and photographs. Triptych is a three-year partnership between The Dance Centre, Circuit-Est Centre Choregraphique in Montreal and the Opera Estate Veneto Festival, Italy. Read more
National Dance Week April 22-29
The Canadian Dance Assembly The Canadian Dance Assembly proudly presents the first ever National Dance Week leading up to International Dance Day as part of the “I love dance/J’aime la danse” National Campaign. Announcing the Recipient of the First Lola Award
March 2, 2012: The Dance Centre is delighted to announce that the recipient of the inaugural Lola Award is internationally-renowned BC choreographer Crystal Pite. The $10,000 award, established in memory of the much-loved choreographer Lola MacLaughlin, was presented at a performance of the LOLA Projects - a Victoria-based initiative also named in her honour - at Scotiabank Dance Centre on March 1, MacLaughlin's birthday.
Pite's award will support her next period of research in 2013, which comes after three years of intensive international touring and a residency in Germany for her company, Kidd Pivot Frankfurt RM. Read more
