SUMMARY:Palak Dhiman
DESCRIPTION:Our second performance features Vancouver Kathak artist Palak Dhiman in a kathak recital performed with live Hindustani music. \nThe evening presents the exploration of a single raga through three compositions representing the Dhrupad and Khayal traditions of Hindustani vocal music. The raga’s journey is shaped through melodic development and rhythmic interplay\, with tabla and Kathak compositions woven throughout the presentation. Together\, dance\, melody\, and rhythm converge in continuous artistic experience. \nPalak is joined by Sunny Matharu (Tabla)\, Akhil Jobanputra (Vocals)\, and Pavittar Singh Namdhari (Esraj). \nThis program is presented by the Indian Classical Music Society of Vancouver\, and is funded in part by the BC Live Performance Network’s Community Presenters Assistance Grant & Vancouver Foundation’s LEVEL BIPOC Grant.

SUMMARY:Ballet Vancouver
DESCRIPTION:Three acclaimed works open Ballet Vancouver’s inaugural season in a dazzling triple bill of breathtaking range and ambition\, featuring Principal dancers Heather Ogden of The National Ballet of Canada and Frances Chung of San Francisco Ballet — two Vancouver-trained artists whose remarkable journeys began in this city before ascending to the world’s most celebrated stages — alongside Principal dancer Francesco Gabriele Frola of San Francisco Ballet. \nThe program includes Balanchine’s Apollo — a cornerstone of the neoclassical repertoire and one of the most performed and revered works in ballet history — is a staple of major ballet companies around the world. The spellbinding Black Swan Pas de Deux is one of the most iconic scenes from the beloved classic Swan Lake. And Jorma Elo’s Slice to Sharp\, originally created for New York City Ballet’s Diamond Project in 2006\, makes its Canadian premiere\, setting pulsing modern movement to an unexpected pairing of Baroque melodies. Together\, the program is a compelling testament to the athleticism and artistry that define Ballet Vancouver.

SUMMARY:Ziyian Kwan & Shion Skye Carter
DESCRIPTION:In this duet co-authored and performed by Ziyian Kwan and Shion Skye Carter\, two bodies slipstitch between rupture and repair. The artists share select stories and memories through the weft and warp of images\, text\, and dance. They thread together the singularity of their artistic approaches to explore content that is at once frayed and tidily knit. What emerges is a reflection on mending through the gentle and persistent work of collaboration – in art and in life.
