SUMMARY:Hold on Let Go 2026
DESCRIPTION:  \nThis year’s program celebrates the persistence and imagination of independent theatre\, dance and performance at a moment when the very possibility of making this kind of work is under pressure. This is the fragile\, necessary space that experimental artists and gatherings like HOLD ON LET GO have always protected: a space for contemporary performance that asks artists and audiences to lean into uncertainty\, stay with complexity\, and dream new possibilities for a world in visible collapse. \nFrom February 3-7\, over five days and nights\, the Russian Hall will become a shared studio — a porous setting to test forms\, reach across disciplines and witness work that refuses easy categorization. The artists in this year’s program speak from where they stand while also reaching toward larger\, messier questions: works that examine our intimate ecosystems even as they hold wider systems to account. \nThese visionary works will move us — zooming out and in and out again\, drawing attention to what is right here and what still feels impossibly far away in this current cycle of reconstruction. Seen through the eyes of the artists in the program\, collapse can reveal many things — transformation\, connection and renewal. Our festival gatherings make room for reflection\, agitation and states of newness and building. And…there will be music!  \nPlease join us in holding on\, letting go and staying with each other inside all that is shifting.

SUMMARY:Matriarchs Uprising
DESCRIPTION:Witness contemporary dance by Indigenous women at Matriarchs Uprising 2026. \nPresented by O.Dela Arts in partnership with The Dance Centre\, this festival gathers choreographers from across Canada\, Australia and New Zealand to share their expressions of dance in an exciting week of performances\, talks\, and community workshops. \nCurated by Olivia C. Davies\, the 2026 festival program opens with the long-awaited Western Canada premiere of Wahsipekuk: Au-delà des montagnes by Wolastoq and Quebecois artist Ivanie Aubin-Malo. Ktunaxa choreographer\, Samantha Sutherland\, shares her latest work\, ʔa·kinq̓uku in a double bill with carriers and keepers of the ancestral portals from Sophie Dow and Beany John. Sandra Lamouche brings Out of Wounds followed by Ngambaa\, by Australian Indigenous choreographer Amelia O’Leary. \nOn February 21\, there is a studio preview of Michelle Olson’s newest work in development\, where did you go\, and the festival performance program closes with Matriarchs from Australian Indigenous choreographer\, Olivia Adams. IndigiDance on Screen returns with five short dance films by Indigenous women\, available on-demand all week on the festival website. \nThe signature Talking Truths Circle Conversations invite audiences to witness festival artists speaking their truth\, while the Gathering Hope performance sharing at Morrow offers an invitation to witness Vancouver-based Indigenous story-keepers and dance artists in an improvised score for dance and story-weaving. A closing night reception features musical guests\, Tsimka and Michael Red.
