SUMMARY:Compañia Rafaela Carrasco
DESCRIPTION:After the international success of Born a Shadow (2017) and Ariadna\, Alhilo del Mito (2020)\, Artistic Director Rafaela Carrasco and Playwright Álvaro Tato deepen their creative partnership with Nocturna\, a poetic dance exploration of nighttime as a dark mirror into the human soul. Along with an exceptional cast of dancers and musicians\, the work leads the audience on a sleepless journey from dusk to dawn\, evoking the mysteries of feeling\, consciousness\, and memory. Nocturna won the Critics’ Choice Award for Best Dance Show at the XXVII Flamenco Festival of Jerez de la Frontera.

SUMMARY:Compagnie de la Citadelle
DESCRIPTION:James Kudelka’s Half an Hour of Our Time was originally commissioned by Moonhorse Dance Theatre in 2008\, and performed by Claudia Moore and Dan Wild. This 30-minute duet was primarily influenced by Jean Cocteau and Francis Poulenc’s one-act opera\, La voix humaine. Performed in silence\, this duet for a woman and a man is dense with incident.  Everything that has bound this couple is now unravelling before us.

SUMMARY:Peeping Tom
DESCRIPTION:Recalling the shifting surrealism of filmmaker David Lynch\, the paired works of Diptych (The missing door and The lost room) bring together a collection of odd and archetypal individuals and subjects them to a corkscrew journey of extraordinary proportions. \nFounded by Gabriela Carrizo and Franck Chartier\, the Belgium-based Peeping Tom obliterates the border between theatre and dance\, roping together a hyperrealist aesthetic with real-world settings to fashion a disquieting mix of performance genres. \nWith elements of film noir\, dark comedy\, and foley-effects\, the work undermines the seeming solidity of actual places (a ship’s cabin\, a banal hallway) with nightmare logic. Within the slip and slide of altered perceptions and an unreliable narrative\, the characters act out a series of increasingly bizarre scenarios. Coherence and stability fracture\, then shatter\, as theatrical conceits are revealed to be just that. \nAs the story shapeshifts in real time\, peeling back the layers of cinematic convention to pose unsettling questions about the nature of reality\, nothing is as it seems.

SUMMARY:Edward Sembatya
DESCRIPTION:Echoes of Manyatta is a poignant\, stirring dance production that explores the intricate dynamics of the Karamojong community. Through the language of movements\, texture\, polyrhythms\, call and response\, speed\, and control\, Echoes of Manyatta captures the raw emotions and resilient spirit of the Karamojongs. The dancers embody the strength\, perseverance\, struggles\, tenacity\, chaos\, resilience\, and aspirations of a people locked in a cycle of historical disputes\, portraying their daily lives and the echoes of their ancestral land. This performance is a recontextualization of the narratives\, movements\, and socio-historical knowledge inherent in the Angema\, Achemchem\, Ayopo\, Ekaro\, and Naleyo dances of the Karamojong people. It explores significant dichotomies\, illustrating how traditional customs occasionally conflict with contemporary realities and how these tensions influence a community’s collective identity. The production invites you to experience the deep-seated traditions and the transformative contemporary influences that continue to shape and challenge the lives and futures of the Karamojong people. A Manyatta/Ere is a typical Karamojong traditional homestead built in an enclosed\, encircled residential area featuring a small access point for people and a bigger entryway for cattle. It comprises several families and shared areas for livestock.
