SUMMARY:The Falling Company
DESCRIPTION:As part of their residency at Dance Victoria Studios\, Artistic Director Marissa Wong with collaborators Jared Davis and Jamie Bradbury will be working on an interactive and multidisciplinary installation that combines movement\, sound\, and visual projections. \nThe installation performance explores the dynamics of cooperation and power through improvisation and is followed by an interactive portion where audience members are invited to engage with the performers and equipment. \nThe collaborative approach challenges conventional performance hierarchy\, with each performer navigating shifting roles of dominance and vulnerability. By exploring synergistic movement\, visuals\, and sound\, the installation aims to create an immersive\, thought-provoking experience examining human interaction and communication. \nPlease join us  to experience an excerpt of their work in development. Immediately after the showing\, you can enjoy a Q&A with the artists. \nLimited Space! Free to attend\, RSVP required.

SUMMARY:2024 InFrinGinG Dance Festival
DESCRIPTION:On an extraordinary planet full of complexities that make and break it as well as making and breaking its humans\, we gather together to share in life’s loves and losses\, ceremonies\, and projects. Today we dance. \nAs we strive to shift our relationship with nature\, protect it\, defend it even as we burn our way to the theatre\, we gather to understand. We dance. \nIn defining who we are and what we care about – daily – we seek each other. Who are we? What do we care about? How do you dance? \nInFrinGinG Dance Festival’s focus this season is on our community – on who we have been\, who we are and where we are going. We are reflected from the stage as a poem\, full with diversity\, layered with metaphor\, and imbued with knowledge for which there are no words. We are together dancing. Local and guest artists invite us to old stories told in new ways – nourishment comes to us from our neighbor’s food truck\, artisans sparkle our eyes\, and Every Body Dances. \nWhy do we dance? Because it saves us. It places us in our physical bodies and in relationship to each other. It places us in the ancestry of our people amidst a vision of our future. It brings us laughter. Joy. Beauty. Today. \nHay ce:p q’a siem for joining us at our festival where we get to watch\, play\, dance and celebrate! \nTo the many performing arts lovers who have made this festival happen – some for its life of 26 years – ‘I’ cun ci:t shqwalawun. We are grateful. \nTo our sponsors\, patrons\, donors and funders\, on behalf of the community\, thank you! \nTo our audience of witnesses and participants – LET’S DANCE!

SUMMARY:Rebecca Margolick
DESCRIPTION:Catenary is a collaborative work from choreographer Rebecca Margolick and violinist Hannah Epperson. A catenary is the curve that an idealized hanging rope assumes under its own weight when supported at its two ends. This is the foundational concept for the piece\, which explores the centres of symmetry between the disciplines of music and dance\, and between the poles of antagonism that define our social\, economic and political reality. Catenary fuses\, upsets and subverts the relationship between live music\, dance\, and futuristic sound design. \nThe artists will share an excerpt\, and lead a conversation with the audience about the process.
