Vancouver International Dance Festival presents Joshua Beamish/MOVETHECOMPANY with Saudade.

Saudade employs a virtuosic cultural experience as a vehicle for the promotion of acceptance and social change. Having grown up in regional BC, I relate to the necessity for cultural events that exhibit inclusion and illustrate alternatives to heteronormativity. Saudade was created to present diverse portraits of romantic relationships which just happen to be homosexual. The work highlights universal components of love, compassion and attraction which exist beyond the lines of gender, race and orientation.
