SUMMARY:Danny Nielsen
DESCRIPTION:One of Canada’s tap dance stars\, Danny Nielsen combines dazzling technique\, natural musicality\, and a drive to constantly innovate with a heartfelt desire to honour the rich traditions of the form. SUMMARY:V’ni Dansi
DESCRIPTION:Rou Garou is a collaboration between V’ni Dansi Artistic Director Yvonne Chartrand\, actor and filmmaker Jordan Waunch\, and video editor and media designer Cande Andrade. Starting from a stage work inspired by the Métis trickster figure Rou Garou\, they are researching the development of a dance film. \nThis multi-disciplinary project explores the relationship between camera and dancer within the context of transformation\, cultural content and staged performance\, bringing together images of the moving body with the technologies of film to create the unique and hybrid art form of screen dance. \nThe artists will share their research and discuss their process. \nDigital Dance Playground – A time of exploration where dance and film intersect. Playing with the inspiration of transformation with tricksters\, sourcing deep into ancestral Métis memory plus innovating into future world visions where we create a universe of discovery where past\, present and future are one. \nPhotos by Yvonne Chew and Chris Randle

SUMMARY:Kaia Shukin | Celeste English | Isak Enquist
DESCRIPTION:Portals is a performance of movement\, lighting and sound – in conversation and reaction to each other – inspired by the notion of travel through space\, time and body. Collaborators Kaia Shukin (choreography)\, Celeste English (scenography/lighting) and Isak Enquist (sound) will show and discuss this current iteration of their work. \nIn 2020 the research for Portals began with the notion that travel through space and time was possible within our own bodies.\nVeins as wormholes\, galaxies in viscera\, memories and sensation containing a multiverse.\nThe arrival\, assembly\, disintegration and diffusion of our brief state of being.\nA way through grief\, an act of wonder\, a journey through the multiplicity of self.\nFinding you again\, scattered through the cosmos. \nArtist talkback March 27

SUMMARY:Tangaj Collective
DESCRIPTION:Ramanenjana is a docufiction performance about a mysterious ‘dance epidemic’ which swept Madagascar for four months in 1863\, bringing thousands of people to the streets to dance nonstop to the magnetic music of the drums. Examining conflicting accounts of the event\, the work traces its political and religious implications\, and how colonialism may have spread misconceptions about an extraordinary movement – and questions the role of dance itself in society. \nChoreographers Simona Deaconescu (Romania) and Gaby Saranouffi (Madagascar) collaborated with Malagasy ethnomusicologist and musician Olombelo Ricky and three versatile performers to create a witty and intriguing exploration of dance\, disease\, and revolution. \nPROGRAM \nPost-show artist talkback January 20\nFree artist lecture January 21 | 4pm\nDigital stream also available

SUMMARY:Nellie Gossen
DESCRIPTION:Interdisciplinary artist Nellie Gossen’s Returns is an imaginative convergence of dance\, labour and garment fabrication: an innovative experiment and month-long artistic enquiry into the standard 30-day retail return policy. \nGarments of all kinds are purchased and brought to the studio where they are carefully disassembled\, and their materials reimagined into new forms. Gossen works alongside dance artist Erika Mitsuhashi\, clothing artist Jaewoo Kang and visual artist tone puorro to construct an ever-shifting landscape of garment constellations\, sculptural configurations\, and unfolding movement scores. At the end of the 30-day period\, all garments are meticulously reconstructed back into their original forms and returned to stores for a full refund. \nVIEW CALENDAR for scheduled days and times

SUMMARY:Ebnflōh
DESCRIPTION:Founded in Montreal by Alexandra ‘Spicey’ Landé\, Ebnflōh has earned national acclaim for a distinctive choreographic approach which skilfully transposes hip hop dance and culture to the stage\, in works full of urgency and resonance. La Probabilité du Néant (The Probability of Nothingness) is Spicey’s most ambitious creation to date: it asks how we can make sense of our actions when witnessing extreme situations – are we spectators or accomplices? Eight powerful\, virtuosic dancers perform with ferocious commitment\, propelled by electrifying music and video. Intense and emotional\, this insightful take on perceptions and choices highlights our tremendous capacity for resilience and resistance. \nPROGRAM \nPost-show artist talkback December 8

SUMMARY:Stand Up Dance
DESCRIPTION:From dance-theatre mash-ups and site-specific works to films and interactive installations\, the work of queer Canadian dance artist Meagan O’Shea is almost impossible to categorize\, crossing disciplines and continents. Anatomalia is an adventurous international collaboration\, and a passionate collective healing of the damage done to ‘femalia’. Bringing together a cast of five exceptional dancers\, original sound and design\, and local participants\, the work cycles between shame and curiosity\, repulsion and desire\, fear and trust\, to release the trauma stored in the body\, and reclaim joy. Theatrical\, playful\, and imaginative\, this one-of-a-kind creation celebrates survival and recovery. \nPost-show artist talkback November 17 | Book Swap \nThis is a promenade-style performance where the audience is free to move around the space to see the unfolding of the work from different perspectives\, for a richly immersive and intimate experience. Seating will also be available. \nPROGRAM
