Workshop | Special Presentation

A Surprised Body: Francesco Scavetta

A Surprised Body is a body in a state of constant alertness, able to surprise itself and to escape from habit and any other routine: more focused on reacting than on acting, on removing rather than doing. The goal is to let movement cross freely through the body, helping the dancer to build their presence on stage.

The physical training aims at awakening awareness and creating occasions for discoveries, concentrating on centering and gravity, and using exercises and games to focus on attention and reaction. Investigations of movement and structured improvisations create conceptual, physical and mental challenges; movement materials are transformed and de-structured in several ways.
