Dance//Novella is excited to present two of our latest works: “The Sound of Disappearing” and “STANCE.”
“The Sound of Disappearing” is a 15-minute duet created and performed by Racheal Prince and Brandon Lee Alley. Delving into themes of tragedy, loss, and grief, this thought-provoking piece poses profound questions about our mortality and the pain of losing loved ones. How do these contemplations affect us? How would we cope with the departure of someone dear to us? These answers may not be easily found or confronted, but they are an integral part of our human existence.
“STANCE” was built in collaboration with 9 professional dance artists: Mia Pelayo, Yuha Tomita, Daria Mkhaylyuk, Kiera Hill, Alexis Fletcher, Bryn Bridgen, Nasiv Sall, Nancy Li and Oksana Maslechko.
This work fosters a dynamic interaction between the artists and the viewer, creating an exchange that goes beyond mere observation. While “STANCE” tackles serious subject matter, it exudes a profound sense of strength, empowerment, encouragement, and growth, which ultimately emerges as the overarching theme. An exciting aspect of this performance is the post-show open discussion, which provides a unique opportunity for a dialogue between the viewer and the artists. Guided by a guest facilitator, the talk back will commence by unveiling the inspiration behind the work, initiating a stimulating exchange.
