Kokoro Dance presents the world premiere of the provocative and primal Reading the Bones, a work distilled from the 33-year history of Kokoro Dance’s butoh-inspired creations. Choreographed by Kokoro Dance co-founders, Barbara Bourget and Jay Hirabayashi on five dancers with a 50-year spread in ages, Reading the Bones exploits this generational diversity to offer rich and deep nuances to the performances. Music for the new work is by Joseph Hirabayashi; lighting by Gerald King. Through primordial humanistic gestures, tremulous cycles of breathing and eclectic yet controlled movement, they convey the trials and vulnerability of different stages of life and being.
