The Dance Centre is Hiring — Marketing & Communications Manager

We are seeking a skilled, motivated Marketing and Communications Manager to help grow audience engagement and visibility for one of Canada’s leading dance organizations. Join us in amplifying artists’ voices and expanding the role of dance in Vancouver’s cultural life.

About Us
Located on the unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səl̓ilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations, The Dance Centre is a vibrant cultural hub. Fourteen organizations call our building home. Annually,  hundreds of artists  and 40+ dance organizations create and present events here and we welcome 87,000+ visitors.

We advance dance through  specialized, innovative, high-quality programming; build connections across communities, and champion its role in societal well-being. The Role
As a key team member, you will lead marketing and communications initiatives that increase awareness, deepen engagement, and support revenue generation. You’ll work closely with Programming, Development, Outreach, Membership, Venue teams, and the Executive Director.

Key Responsibilities include but not limited to:

• Lead marketing and communications strategies across digital, print, and media
• Support sponsorships and partnerships that drive revenue
• Manage box office (on-site) and ticketing system (contracted out/ online)
• Promote programs, artists, and venue activities (on/ off-site; on and off-line)
• Share marketing knowledge with artists, members of The Dance Centre
• Contribute to major initiatives, including Dance In Vancouver and on-site partnership events (we collaborate with organizations such as: Push Festival, Chutzpah! Festival, Vancouver International Dance Festival, Dancing on the Edge Festival, Queer Arts Festival, Music on Main, Matriarchs Uprising etc.)

About You
You are organized, self-directed, and collaborative, with a balance of strategic thinking and hands-on execution. You are comfortable working in a dynamic arts environment and value both creativity and data-informed decisions.

• Excellent written and verbal communication
• Relationship-building confidence
• Attention to detail and problem-solving ability
• Adaptability and curiosity about evolving marketing tools
• Commitment to supporting artists and the arts sector

Qualifications

• 3–5 years’ experience in the performing arts (dance an asset)
• Experience engaging diverse audiences and partners
• You do not shy from public speaking, and have great presentation skills
• Budget coordination experience, reporting
• Digital marketing and social media expertise
• Strong copywriting and editing skills
• Familiarity with Mailchimp, CRM systems, Canva, WordPress, Adobe Creative Suite

Schedule
Full-time (37 hours/week). Evening/weekend work required during events; banked hours support flexibility.

• Three weeks paid vacation
• Paid statutory holidays, including Indigenous Peoples Day
• Paid December closure (~1 week) and a spring long weekend

Compensation
$58,000–$61,500 annually (non-negotiable, based on current budget).

The Dance Centre accepts year-round expressions of  interest for the position(s) of  Board Director We are are seeking passionate, community-engaged individuals with specific skills (financial, fundraising, networking),with a  strong interest for arts and culture, keen to help us strengthen support for the development of dance in BC.

The Dance Centre is the leading resource centre for dance in British Columbia, supporting the development of the art of dance through a range of activities that is unparalleled in Canada. We provide resources and programs for dance professionals; present public performances and events; bring dance to the community through outreach programs; operate The Dance Centre’s facility, our creative hub in downtown Vancouver; and promote BC dance.

The Dance Centre board is recruiting volunteer directors, seeking individuals who share a common interest in the arts and specifically wish to support the development of the art of dance. Our Board aims to be inclusive and equity-seeking, working collaboratively with community representatives and our staff in asserting the value and impact of art in our society.

We are seeking individuals with these experiences, connections, knowledge or skills:

• Community building.
• Diversity, equity and inclusion.
• Fiduciary oversight and financial management (CPA, accountant or banking experience).
• Fundraising and corporate sponsorship.
• Marketing and audience development.
• Real estate and property development/management.
• Legal practice (not-for-profits, real estate, HR).
• Strategic planning.

BOARD RESPONSIBILITIES

The Dance Centre Board is primarily a governing and fundraising board. Members also participate as committee chairs or members, event helpers, financial advisors and more.

• Board members are required to: Accept fiduciary responsibility for the organization.
• Ensure the organization is in accordance with legal and ethical practices.
• Assist in the development of and approve the annual budget.
• Read and understand financial statements.
• Oversee the Executive Director.
• Engage with fellow board members and staff in a spirit of learning and respect.
• Represent the interests of the organization as a whole, rather than individual interests.
• Follow trends in the organizational field of work.
• Be an ambassador and a bridge into new communities.
• Challenge the organization to live its values to the fullest.

Board members are also expected to attend meetings and events, chair or participate in a committee, assist with identifying potential new board members, assist with fundraising, and act as an ambassador for The Dance Centre.
