Based in Belgium, Indian born choreographer and dancer Rakesh Sukesh performs and teaches across Europe. In 2019, a random encounter with a camera on the streets of Tallinn, Estonia made him a momentary poster-boy for a right wing news channel’s campaign against immigration from Asia and Africa.
In because i love the diversity Rakesh uses his responsive, human-centred choreographic approach to interrogate the rendering of his image into a viral, racist symbol. He traces the effects on his own body, and how they affect his connection to other bodies — those of the mostly white, deeply loving people around him.
