Dancers of Damelahamid is an Indigenous dance company founded upon over five decades of extensive work of song and dance revitalization. Co-commissioned by Dance Victoria, Raven Mother is its newly choreographed dance work in honour of late Elder Margaret Harris (1931–2020), who had a significant impact on the revitalization of Indigenous dance along the Northwest Coast. The work illuminates the integral role of women in holding cultural knowledge. In Raven Mother, striking handcrafted traditional masks, movement, song, regalia, sculpture, and design are all interwoven with the embodied narrative. This work is the company’s most ambitious production to date and will be the culmination of generations of artistic and cultural work.
