With this year’s program, we round out a trajectory that started in 2021 with an all-online/digital program, Speculative Futures, to The Collider Effect in 2022, which featured the 4 artists and works that have come out of Theatre Replacement’s COLLIDER residency program, and now to 2023’s offering: Emergent Realities. We present you with exciting new works that while individually compelling, accumulate to reflect on where we are, where we’ve landed, and what we’re taking away from the last 3 years, as we step into new realities.
Live works include New Age Attitudes: Live in Concert by Amanda Sum, Kisiskâciwan by Jeanette Kotowich, and Infinitely Yours by Miwa Matreyek. These are three, carefully crafted works by artists with distinct practices and aesthetics. We’re also sharing three exciting works in-development by artists looking to meet live audiences at this critical time in their process: Adrienne Wong/The Spiderwebshow’s (Victoria, BC) SmartSmart; Hong Kong Exile/Natalie Tin Yin Gan’s Baby Universe RMT and Kelly McInnes and Luciana D’Anunciação’s Mouth to Mouth.
Our digital/online programming includes: Alone Together by XOST/Secret Theatre (Halifax), Some Must Watch While Some Must Sleep by Tanya Marquardt (Brooklyn, NY), I(n)finite and Iyeism by Eric Cheung and a one-hour radio broadcast of Curtain Razor’s (Regina) Untitled Peter Tripp Project. These digital and online offerings are the result of each of these artist’s nimbleness to adapt and expand the forms they work with, and are emerging as new, hybrid tendrils of performance.
As always, we’re interested in what these artists are thinking about alongside their work, and are once again teaming up with Dani Fecko and the team at Fascinator Management to host some artist-centered, industry focused convos. See you at The Russian Hall and online at pushoff.org for PushOFF 2023: Emergent Realities.
