An intimate dance performance by emerging Mexican, indigenous, and queer artist Rodrigo Flores Hervert, followed by an open conversation with the audience.
ALTAR is a solo work that explores the body as a territory of memory, identity, and belonging. Based on the experience of growing up as an Indigenous and queer person in Mexico, the work delves into those parts of ourselves that we learn to hide, reject, or silence in order to belong.
Through movement, the Nahuatl voice, ritual elements and sound, ALTAR brings together what was once a source of shame: language, body, origin, way of speaking, skin and experiences that have marked one’s own history, and places it back at the center.
The work proposes the body as a space of memory and offering: a place where that which was rejected can be seen, remembered, and transformed. ALTAR does not seek to return to the past, but rather to ask what happens when we begin to reclaim as our own that which we once learned to leave behind.
