Soft Currents is inspired by murmurations – enormous groups of starlings that swirl across the sky in shape-shifting clouds. This collaborative creation brings together 12 dance artists and a original light and sound score to explore the idea of collective responsibility. Working with headphones, the artists respond to text co-authored by Goodman and the group that only they can hear. The audience experiences a performance full of spontaneous eruptions, compositions and delights, alternating between collective unison and individual focus.
This special DIV edition of Soft Currents will have a site-specific component, moving through different spaces at Scotiabank Dance Centre and culminating in the theatre for a post-show social gathering with DJ Brady Marks.
Accessibility: The work is built with accessibility in mind. There are multiple sites within the building where it can be viewed that are wheelchair-accessible and most have some limited seating for anyone that needs it.
The 14th biennial Dance In Vancouver celebrates the energy and innovation of our contemporary dance scene: join us for five days of performances, studio showings and events, showcasing some of British Columbia’s most exciting companies and artists.
